Our Story

Runlo was built by a retailer — for retailers.

After 25 years in the convenience store industry, I realized that the biggest challenge facing independent retailers today isn't competition — it's the technology designed to serve them.

In 2023, I was speaking with another store owner about online delivery platforms. Like many retailers, he was frustrated by the high commissions charged on every order. That conversation stayed with me because it highlighted a growing gap between independent retailers and the digital tools needed to compete in today's marketplace.

The Reality for Independent Retailers

Independent retailers today face pressures that didn't exist even a decade ago. Customers increasingly expect the convenience of online ordering and delivery.

Many stores are still not visible in the digital marketplace, meaning they miss opportunities to reach customers who now shop online first.

Those that do participate often rely on platforms that charge high commissions and control the customer relationship. Over time, retailers can lose both margin and direct connection with the very customers they serve.

For independent store owners, the challenge is no longer just running a good store — it's learning how to compete in a digital marketplace without losing control of their business.

Why We Built Runlo

Runlo was created to help independent retailers participate in the digital marketplace without losing control of their business.

Many small retailers operate in limited physical spaces and local neighborhoods. Unlike large chains, they often don't have the advantage of massive store footprints or endless shelf space.

But in the digital world, those limitations disappear. Online, a small neighborhood store can reach customers beyond its physical footprint and compete on equal footing with much larger retailers.

Our goal with Runlo is to give independent retailers the tools to step into that digital space — helping them reach more customers, grow their business, and compete without sacrificing their margins or their relationship with customers.

Looking Ahead

Retail is evolving rapidly as technology changes how customers discover and interact with local businesses. Independent retailers cannot afford to be left out of this shift.

Our vision with Runlo is to help retailers extend the reach of their neighborhood store into the digital world.

When independent retailers have access to the right technology, they can compete with anyone while continuing to serve the communities that built their businesses.

If you're a retailer reading this and have experienced these same challenges, then Runlo was built with you in mind.
